MEN'S BASKETBALL
Notes
Season tickets for the 2017-18 campaign are on sale for fans … To enjoy 15 regular-season home games, fans can purchase Reserved season tickets for $200, while General Admission tickets are available for only $100 at uhcougars.com/tickets … Current season-ticket holders can visit uhcougars.com/tickets and follow the appropriate links to renew their season tickets online at any time … As the former Hofheinz Pavilion is transformed into the $60-million Fertitta Center, the Cougars will play most of their 2017-18 home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.


CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week
Junior distance runner G.J. Reyna opened the 2017 season in dramatic fashion, coming from behind in the final loop to win the individual championship at the Norry Hersey Rice Invitational, as the Houston Cougar Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams took second and third, respectively, on Friday.

FOOTBALL
Last Week
Head Coach Major Applewhite picked up his first win at the helm of the #HTownTakeover as the Cougars kicked of the 2017 season with a 19-16 victory at Arizona on Saturday night.

Houston sophomore defensive tackle Ed Oliver opened his sophomore season on the right path in Houston’s win at Arizona Saturday, and for his efforts was named The American Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday … Oliver started on the right foot, picking up his 24th career tackle for loss on Houston’s first defensive play of the game … The tackle was his first of 11 on the night, as the Houston native would add another half tackle for loss later in the game and force his fourth career fumble, a fumble that was recovered by Houston cornerback Alexander Myres … Oliver currently leads all defensive linemen nationally with an average of 11 tackles per game … Entering Saturday’s game, the Arizona offense had topped 500 rushing yards in each of its last two games and with the help of Oliver, the Houston defense held the Wildcats to only 152 rushing yards … For full postgame notes on the game, click here … Head Coach Major Applewhite held his annual press conference Monday … Transcribed quotes can be found here … Houston’s Sept. 23 game vs. Texas Tech, the Cougars’ second home game of the 2017 season, has been set for an 11 a.m. kickoff and will air on ABC or ESPN2, The American Athletic Conference announced Monday … TV network designation will be announced after the Sept. 16 games … Officials from The University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Houston agreed on Sept. 6 that the previously postponed game between the two schools will not be made up this season.

Houston Soccer posted a 1-0-1 record last week, defeating Southern Miss, 4-1 on Friday and playing to a double-overtime, 0-0 draw against Lamar on Sunday.

Houston remains undefeated at home with a 3-0-1 record … Against Southern Miss, Selena Peters (29'), Hannah Dauzat (39'), Mia Brescia (65’) and Madison Solileau (75’) registered goals … Goalkeeper Rachel Estopare recorded 10 saves … Against Lamar, Estopare added another eight saves in her second shutout of the season and the seventh overall of her career … For her effort between the posts, Estopare was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.


SOTBALL
Notes
Houston Softball held its first team practice of the fall on Monday … The program is coming off a 30-25 campaign in 2017 … The Cougars, who were 12-6 in American Athletic Conference play, finished second in The American for the regular season and added a runner-up finish at The American Championship … The two finishes are both the highest respective finishes for the program as a member of the league.


VOLLEYBALL
Last Week
Houston Volleyball posted a 2-1 record in the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup over the weekend. The Cougars defeated Stetson, 3-1, in their home opener before falling 3-2 to McNeese on Friday. In the tournament finale, Houston bested Mississippi State, 3-1, to take runner-up honors.

Houston opened its home schedule with a 2-1 record in the eighth annual Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup … Sophomore libero Katie Karbo and freshman Abby Irvine were each named All-Tournament for their respective efforts … Karbo, who was also named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, averaged 5.77 digs per set and recorded seven service aces, while Irvine, who posted two double-doubles, averaged 5.77 assists and 2.23 digs per set with five service aces.
